Impak Maksima. The movie was (kononnya) Malaysia's version of The Fast and The Furious.
Well, I've never actually watched the movie myself, despite having it in my hard disk (since I was still in MMU). But I'm pretty sure it involved a lot of car street-racing and drifting.
Now, I wasn't really interested in Impak Maksima: The Musical. I only just saw the posters and heard some stuff about it while working in Istana Budaya. What got me interested was when I heard there was going to be a car drifting on stage and that it would be the first time that will ever be done on stage. Then later I noticed a newspaper clipping about "litar lumba atas pentas". My interest increased.
Tonight, I got a chance to watch the press preview version of Impak Maksima: The Musical. It was quite packed. VIPs all over the place. Sponsors and media. Friends and families of staff.
And now, on to the review. Let's start with the positives: The songs are actually quite nice. And some of the special effects and jokes were kinda good.
UNFORTUNATEL, songs-songs tersebut would've been a whole lot better if the lyrics could actually be heard. The music was too loud. And/Or they didn't sing loud enough.
The characters were all over the place with no real focus. Heck, it's so hard to even SEE the main characters with everyone wearing colorful clothing. Like, one of the earliest scenes involved a stage with someone singing, a bar with a few characters, a table where people from the previous scene was sitting, and a group of dancers at the front of the stage. Where's the focus?! It was EVERYWHERE.
So, the story. A guy in school called DK (Drift King. Hah!) and all his followers lepak2 in a school and then he spots a new girl. Dia gi ngorat lah kan (through song and dance). Then they sorta start a relationship. One time when they were dating, a girl datang kacau diorang, saying that DK was her "dancing partner" (in the previously mentioned stage/bar scene). So DK danced and sang to explain to his date.
Sometime later, DK was back with that other girl (dunno why) and he sorta faces off with his "racing rival". Turns out that new girl is the rival's sister. Seeing the other girl fondling DK, she breaks up with him. Then at the end when the rival beats up DK to near death and walks away with "other girl", the rival's sister goes back to DK. Story ends.
There was a sorta sub-story involving DK's rempit mechanic and an auto-shop.
Ok ok ok, so it's Impak Maksima. Cars, right? There were only 2. And only one drifts. Twice. Once in the beginning, once in the middle. And how does it drift? It does a few 360 turns in the middle of the stage. That's it. Oh, and that part about racing.... nope. Takde pun.
Overall, I think the whole show was about random singing and hip-hop dancing. The few well-choreographed dancing scenes were agak menarik. But the rest, memang semua breakdancing suka hati diorang je.
Strangely, a few days ago, I managed to snap a pic of prop kereta yang dah terbalik. I'm pretty sure I didn't see it in the show... nanti2 lah aku letak gambars.

If you still have Impak Maksima in your hard drive, quickly delete the movie, disconnect your hard drive from your PC, and dump it in a tub full of chlorox, just to be safe.
If you have already watched the movie, I am terribly sorry that I was too late to warn you. No man deserves to have his sights directed at such cinematic abomination.
